Minor Snow solar term inspires kids to explore pickling traditions

A kindergarten in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province marked the arrival of Xiaoxue, or Minor Snow – one of the traditional Chinese calendar's 24 solar terms – with a hands-on cultural activity themed "Welcoming Minor Snow with Winter Pickles."

During the event, volunteers guided children through the process of making traditional pickled vegetables, allowing them to experience the flavors and rituals tied to seasonal change. The immersive activity helped the young participants connect with the deep cultural heritage behind China's food traditions and seasonal customs.

This year, November 22 marks the beginning of the Minor Snow solar term, a period characterized by falling temperatures, rising precipitation, and frequent cold fronts. Its arrival signals the gradual shift into a colder, wetter winter.
