In oil extraction, CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) is an important low-carbon option. It captures carbon dioxide from industrial sources, transports it to oilfields, and injects it into oil reservoirs. This process not only boosts oil recovery by pushing trapped crude to production wells but also permanently stores CO₂ underground.
Daqing Oilfield, a pioneer in CCUS implementation, has launched China's first million-tonne non-miscible flooding CCUS industrial base in Aonan Oilfield this year, injecting 85,300 tonnes of CO₂ to increase oil production by 40 percent while permanently sequestering carbon.
