Arsenal midfielder Eberechi Eze showed Tottenham Hotspur what they missed out on with a brilliant hat-trick in a 4-1 north London derby demolition at home on Sunday, bolstering the title charge for the Premier League leaders.

Mikel Arteta's men were too strong for a timid Spurs side as Leandro Trossard and Eze scored in the first half at Emirates Stadium. Eze, who spurned Tottenham's advances to join Arsenal over the summer, struck again early in the second half.

Richarlison's impressive long-range goal reduced the deficit, but it was no consolation as Eze completed his superb treble to fire the Gunners six points clear at the top.

The 27-year-old midfielder tallied just the fourth hat-trick in north London derby history after Ted Drake, Terry Dyson and Alan Sunderland.

Arsenal's 10-match winning streak was ended by Sunderland's late equalizer in a 2-2 draw before this month's international break. But Eze's best performance since his £60 million ($78 million) move from Crystal Palace erased that bitter taste as Spurs were put to the sword at the Emirates yet again.

The Gunners, unbeaten in the last seven north London derbies, have lost just once in 33 home meetings with their rivals from the other end of the Seven Sisters Road.

Arsenal's biggest win over Tottenham since 2012 marked the perfect start to a crucial period featuring a visit from Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, before a Premier League trip to second-placed Chelsea next weekend.

The Gunners have now gone unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions, ensuring they took advantage of Manchester City's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

With City dropping to third place and defending champions Liverpool in turmoil down in 11th, Arsenal find themselves presented with a golden opportunity to end their long wait for a first English title since 2004.
