Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi openly hinted earlier this month that Japan could intervene militarily in China's Taiwan region during a parliamentary session. CGTN spoke with Cao Ruo-mei, a history teacher on the island. Recounting the history of the Japanese occupation, she noted that people in Taiwan had almost no civil rights or freedom under Japan's strict police rule. Although the invaders carried out some infrastructure construction, she said its fundamental purpose was to serve Japan's own interests.
