Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi on Tuesday met with Raja Dato' Nushirwan bin Zainal Abidin, director-general of Malaysia's National Security Council, calling on both sides to safeguard the fruits of the victory in World War Two and not allow anyone to turn back the wheel of history.

Nushirwan is visiting Beijing for the second China-Malaysia Bilateral Dialogue on the Management of Maritime Issues.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, said China is ready to work with Malaysia to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, enhance strategic alignment, deepen political and security cooperation and deliver more tangible outcomes in practical cooperation.

Wang emphasized China's readiness to synergize its upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan with Malaysia's 13th Malaysia Plan, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and jointly deliver key projects including the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the "Two Countries, Twin Parks."

He also highlighted emerging areas such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and new energy as new drivers for bilateral cooperation.

The Chinese top diplomat called for both sides to make full use of the maritime dialogue mechanism, expand practical cooperation, properly manage differences, and jointly promote a new narrative of peace, stability and win-win cooperation in the South China Sea.

He urged stronger coordination against unilateralism and protectionism to uphold the multilateral trading system and contribute stability to the global economy.

Wang reiterated China's high appreciation for Malaysia's long-held commitment to the one-China principle and its clear stance of not supporting any form of "Taiwan independence."

He called on both countries to support each other in safeguarding core interests, defend international fairness and justice and preserve the hard-won outcomes of the victory of World War Two.

Nushirwan said Malaysia values its deep-rooted friendship with China, noting that the bilateral relationship has become a model for neighboring countries.

He reaffirmed Malaysia's adherence to the one-China policy and welcomed the positive results achieved in the maritime dialogue.

Malaysia stands ready to work with China to carry out joint research and other consensuses to safeguard peace and stability at sea, Nushirwan said, adding that Malaysia will continue advancing major bilateral cooperation projects and expanding practical cooperation across various fields.

He further emphasized that given the two countries' similar views on major regional and international issues, Malaysia looks forward to strengthening multilateral coordination with China to jointly uphold regional peace, stability and prosperity.
