Rare red-crowned crane spotted in Ningxia as wetland ecosystems return to heath

00:19

A rare red-crowned crane has been spotted in Shizuishan, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, marking the first documented sighting of this protected species in the region. The crane was snapped by bird photographers flocking together with common cranes at Shizuishan Riverside Wetland Park. It is a special moment that reflects the progress Ningxia has made in restoring its wetland ecosystems, thanks to which a growing number of rare bird species are returning to the area.
