Earthquake hits Japan's Kyushu, no tsunami warning issued

A magnitude-5.3 earthquake hit Kyushu, Japan, at a depth of 20 kilometers on Tuesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) measured the quake at magnitude 5.7, saying it struck off Kumamoto prefecture at 6:01 p.m. local time.

Ubuyama village in Kumamoto prefecture experienced a seismic intensity of upper 5 on the Japanese scale of 7, while lower 5 was observed in Aso city, Kumamoto prefecture, and Taketa city, Oita prefecture.

No tsunami warning was issued, the JMA said.
