Editor's Note: Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call on Monday which touched on the Taiwan question. This comes as Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi still refuses to retract her erroneous remarks on Taiwan, which Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says "crossed a red line." In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan speaks with experts on the timing and meaning of the talk, as President Trump emphasized that Washington "understands how important the Taiwan question is to China." Experts on today's show also note that the Taiwan question remains China's "reddest of red lines," warning that provocative comments on this could further strain China–Japan relations. With Tokyo yet to provide clarification, the region watches closely.
