Once facing the fate of the dodo, the Hainan Gibbon is now the world's only critically endangered gibbon species, with its population rising.

Today, all 42 individuals live in China's Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park – a sign that sustained conservation efforts can pull species back from the brink of extinction.
