China firmly opposes official interactions and military ties between the United States and China's Taiwan region, and this position has been consistent, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday.

Responding to a question about the U.S. welcoming a $40 billion military spending plan announced by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, Mao said China resolutely rejects such moves.

She stressed that the DPP authorities cannot achieve "independence" through military expansion and will not succeed in resisting reunification.
