Sanfrecce Hiroshima players celebrate after scoring a goal against Chengdu Rongcheng in an AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Champions League Elite match at the Phoenix Hill Sports Park Football Stadium in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, November 25, 2025. /VCG
Two CSL (Chinese Super League) clubs, Chengdu Rongcheng and Shanghai Port, were unable to win their matches in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Champions League Elite at home on Tuesday, remaining outside the top eight in the East Zone.
Chengdu were held to a 1-1 draw by Sanfrecce Hiroshima at the Phoenix Hill Sports Park Football Stadium, after squandering a one-goal advantage from Felipe's penalty kick in the 54th minute.
The penalty was earned by captain Tim Chow, who was fouled in the box by Hayako Araki, five minutes into the second half. Felipe faked out goalkeeper Keisuke Osako to find the net.
But the home side's lead lasted less than 10 minutes. Hiroshima made two key substitutions in the 60th minute, sending Daiki Suga and Mutsuki Kato into the game. Three minutes later Suga's cross from the left found Sota Nakamura, who drew the defense's attention in the box before passing to Kato for the equalizer, knotting the score at 1-1.
The 1-1 draw left Rongcheng in 10th place with five points. Sanfrecce rank fifth with eight points.
Seoul's Jesse Lingard celebrates after scoring a goal against Shanghai Port in an AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Champions League Elite match at the Pudong Football Stadium in east China's Shanghai Municipality, November 25, 2025. /VCG
Shanghai, who clinched their third consecutive CSL championship on Saturday, suffered a third straight defeat on the continental stage after losing to Seoul 3-1 at the Pudong Football Stadium.
Former Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard scored two goals and delivered an assist in the second half as Seoul dominated the hosts. Port's only goal came from Mateus Vital, who converted a remarkable long shot in the 57th minute.
The loss left the CSL champions from Shanghai rooted at the bottom in the East without a win, while Seoul sit in fourth place.
