Across Taiwan, numerous historic sites expose the reality of Japanese colonial rule, revealing its brutality through artifacts, documents and the stories of those who resisted. Among these stands the Baguashan Anti-Japanese Aggression Martyrs' Memorial Park in Changhua County, a powerful reminder of the island's long struggle against occupation.

In May 1895, Japanese troops invaded Taiwan, and local residents rose in defense of their homeland. In August 1895, remnants of the Qing Army's "Black Flag Army" joined forces with local militias and volunteers across Taiwan. They gathered at Baguashan and fought a major battle against the Japanese forces. Decades later, in 1965, Changhua residents unearthed 679 sets of remains. Investigations confirmed that these were the bones of the martyrs who perished in the Battle of Baguashan. A memorial park and monument were subsequently established to honor them and remind us that history must not be forgotten.
