China's science & technological advance stuns observers

26:47

Once on the periphery playing a supporting role in scientific understanding and technological advancement, China is now a "core player" in cross-border research projects and cutting-edge innovation. A new study analyzing almost 6 million academic papers reveals that Chinese researchers are now playing a leading role in some of the most groundbreaking scientific discoveries and technological advances. In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan talks to the study author James Evans, Max Palevsky professor in Sociology at the University of Chicago, to explore how China and the United States, the two largest powers in scientific research, can coexist and collaborate to advance global scientific progress. Wang Guan also speak with Gai Keke, professor at the School of AI, Beijing Institute of Technology; Denis Simon, non-resident fellow at Quincy Institute; Andy Mok, senior research fellow at the Center for China and Globalization, to understand how China has scaled the international academic ranks in such a short time.
