Floods and landslides in Indonesia's North Sumatra province have left at least 24 people dead and displaced thousands, a local disaster official said, as Southeast Asia continues to be battered by severe weather. The Sibolga and Central Tapanuli regions were among the worst affected, with communications and power supplies cut in several areas.

The disaster in Indonesia comes amid widespread extreme weather across Southeast Asia. Floods in Thailand and Malaysia have killed more than 30 people and inundated hospitals.
