HKSAR govt pledges all-out rescue, rehabilitation after deadly fire

02:44

As of early Thursday morning, 44 people, including a firefighter, have been killed and 45 others injured after a ferocious blaze broke out at Wang Fuk Court, a residential area in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Tai Po district, on Wednesday.

Over 800 firefighters were mobilized. By around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, firefighters had managed to contain the fire in four housing blocks and were still working to control the blaze in other blocks.

The estate's eight residential buildings had been undergoing renovations since July 2024, covered in bamboo scaffolding and green mesh.

Investigations are underway.
