China's Defense Ministry on Thursday warned Japan that if it crosses the red line on the Taiwan region and invite troubles to itself, it is destined to pay a heavy price.

The People's Liberation Army has strong capabilities and reliable means to defeat any aggressors, Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Defense Ministry, said in response to a question about the Japanese plan to station medium-range surface-to-air missiles at Yonaguni Island, about 110 kilometers east of China's Taiwan region.

This dangerous approach, Jiang warned, will uproot the post-WWII international order and lead Japan to repeat the mistakes of its militarist past.

"The Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China, and how to solve the Taiwan question has nothing to do with Japan," Jiang stressed.

"We urge the Japanese side to fully repent for its war crimes and immediately abandon dangerous attempts. Any attempt to repeat the evil path of aggression and expansion and undermine the post-WWII international order will not succeed," he said.

Also on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned Japan's plans at a press briefing, stating that the deployment of offensive weapons on Japan's surrounding islands would harm regional security and stability, posing a significant threat to neighboring countries.

Zakharova said that Russia is closely monitoring Japan's push for re-militarization and has repeatedly issued warnings to Japan through diplomatic channels. She added Russia opposed Japan's deployment of medium-range missiles under any pretext or in any form and reserves the right to respond harshly to Japan's plans to deploy missiles on Yonaguni Island.
