China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment has released its 2025 annual report on the marine ecosystem surrounding Huangyan Dao, an island in the South China Sea located roughly 500 nautical miles from the Chinese mainland.
The report finds that the local ecosystem remains diverse, stable, and resilient. Nevertheless, it cautions that, as climate change intensifies, the risk of coral bleaching continues to pose a threat. China established the Huangyan Dao national nature reserve earlier this year.
