'Avatar: Fire and Ash' set for December release with franchise's longest runtime

IMAX has officially confirmed that "Avatar: Fire and Ash" will run for 3 hours and 15 minutes – 195 minutes – making it the longest film in the "Avatar" film series to date. The movie is scheduled for a synchronized release in China and the rest of the world on December 19, 2025, aiming to once again ignite the global box office.

Picking up directly after "Avatar: The Way of Water," the new chapter follows Na'vi Jake Sully and Neytiri as they struggle with the grief of losing their eldest son, Neteyam. The tragedy strains their relationship, as the couple faces deep emotional rifts and differing paths to healing and moving forward.

The film also introduces two new Na'vi cultures: the Tlalim Clan, also known as the Wind Traders, a nomadic clan that travels in balloon-like airships, and the Mangkwan Clan, also known as the Ash People, known for their striking black, white and red war paint.

To bring Pandora's volcanic ecosystem and these new tribes to life, director James Cameron's team has once again pushed technological boundaries. The IMAX 4K version will feature epic sequences such as volcanic emissions and aerial dogfights, delivering a new level of immersion for audiences worldwide.
