Peng Leyi, by driving his rig laden with smart appliances from Suzhou in the east to China's northwest frontier in Xinjiang, is part of a logistics revolution. Cross-border trucking is being hailed as the "Fourth Channel" connecting China and Europe, alongside air, sea and rail transport. This overland route, by delivering factory goods from China to destinations in Europe in just 10 to 15 days, is being hailed as a game-changer. As for Peng Leyi, he sees today's "steel caravans" as continuing the legacy of the camel trains that once followed the same route along the Silk Road.
