Across Taiwan, historical sites preserve the truth of Japanese colonial rule and the courage of those who resisted it. Among them, the Wushe Incident Memorial Park in Nantou County stands as one of the most powerful reminders. It preserves not only the memory of a tragic struggle, but also the unyielding spirit of resistance in Chinese history.
In October 1930, indigenous Seediq communities of Wushe, led by Mona Rudao, launched an uprising against Japanese occupation, an event later known as the Wushe Incident. The Japanese colonial authorities deployed massive military force and massacred the resisting residents.
Today, the memorial park houses statues, tombs and monuments dedicated to the heroes who fought to defend their homeland. The event was later adapted into the film "Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale."
