On November 29, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela should be considered completely closed. "To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, without offering further details.
In an interview with CGTN Stringer, several Venezuelans in Caracas shared their reactions to the U.S. move. Edimar, a local resident, called the decision "totally crazy." Maribel, another resident, expressed concern, saying, "This is the last thing we want to happen, but such situations are becoming more and more frequent. It's an abuse – an abuse of power."
