China rejects Japan's new 'evidence' on Diaoyu Dao sovereignty

CGTN

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Monday reiterated that Diaoyu Dao and its affiliated islets have been China's inherent territory since ancient times, stressing that the historical facts are clear and the legal basis is solid.

Lin made the remarks during the ministry's regular press briefing when asked about reports that the Japanese government had added three new documents to Tokyo's "Territory and Sovereignty Exhibition Hall" in an effort to strengthen its claims over the Diaoyu Dao.

The spokesperson stated that extensive evidence, including diplomatic archives, maps, and academic research conducted within Japan, supports China's sovereignty over Diaoyu Dao.

Lin said that Japan's effort to assemble selective and unconvincing so-called historical materials only highlights how unsustainable its position is.

"These moves," he added, "once again reveal that Japan's illegal claims simply cannot withstand scrutiny."
