Building critical care medicine: China's robust growth and the power of global partnership

Over the past decade, China's critical care medicine has undergone a remarkable transformation. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity has grown across the country, clinical systems have become more standardized, and new technologies continue to emerge to facilitate diagnosis and treatment. China has advanced from being a "follower" to being a key global player and even a leader in critical care.

In an interview with CGTN, Dr Craig Coopersmith a surgeon in the area of surgical critical care and professor of surgery at the Emory School of Medicine in Georgia in the United States and former president of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), acknowledged China's progress in critical care medicine and called for deeper global cooperation to ensure more efficient and sufficient care for patients in urgent need. He also highlighted the value of traditional Chinese medicine in enriching global medical knowledge.

As new technologies reshape the future of intensive care, international collaboration has never been more essential. China, working hand in hand with the world, is helping push critical care toward a new era of innovation and saving more lives along the way.
