A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom said on Tuesday that facts have fully proven that China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. The spokesperson added that China has the best record among major countries in peace and security.
China's development poses no threat to any country and only offers opportunities for common development, the spokesperson noted, rejecting the baseless accusations by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his recent remarks at the Lord Mayor's Banquet in London.
The spokesperson emphasized that Hong Kong has long returned to China and that its affairs are solely China's internal matters. The British side lacks the qualification or the right to make irresponsible remarks or interfere in any way.
Regarding China-UK relations, the spokesperson said that China's position has been consistent and clear: only through the principles of mutual respect, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and equality and mutual benefit can bilateral relations advance smoothly.
China urges the UK to see China's development in a reasonable and friendly way, take a positive and practical approach toward China, and work together with China in the same direction to bring bilateral relations to a path of healthy and stable growth, the spokesperson added.
