Chengdu's table tennis hall produced a few routine outcomes and one extremely tight scrap on Monday at the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup. The results included tournament hosts China making light work of Egypt, sweeping the contest 8-0.
Kuai Man and Lin Shidong set the tone in a crushing 11-3, 11-3, 11-7 mixed doubles win, World No. 1 Sun Yingsha followed with a composed 11-4, 14-12, 11-4 women's singles victory and top‑ranked Wang Chuqin wrapped things up by dispatching Youssef Abdelaziz 11-5, 11-4 in men's single action.
The Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei accounted for much of the day's drama. Lin Yun‑ju and Cheng I‑ching prevailed 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 in the opening mixed doubles match, but the ROK struck back by triumphing in women's singles, men's singles and women's doubles to level the team score at 6-6.
In the decisive men's doubles match, Park Gang-hyeon and Oh Jun‑sung closed out Lin and Kao Cheng‑jui 11-9, 11-9, sealing an 8-6 overall win for the ROK.
Other contests saw Germany beat France 8-4, while the Hong Kong SAR cruised past Chile 8-2 and Japan overcame India 8-4.
