This year, at the Temple of the Sleeping Buddha in Beijing, wintersweet has done something surprising – it's blooming a full month earlier than usual, right at the end of November.
However, that's not all. Usually, wintersweet flowers bloom on bare branches, with leaves only appearing after the flowers fade. This season, however, the flowers appeared so early that last year's leaves hadn't even finished falling. The result? A truly rare and marvelous sight: delicate yellow blossoms sharing branches with autumn foliage. If you're in Beijing, now is the prime time to see this enchanting spectacle before it disappears.
