The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday warned "Taiwan independence" separatists against moves to disrupt cross-strait exchanges.
In response to recent remarks made by Taiwan region's leader Lai Ching-te on the "One Country, Two Systems" and cross-strait exchanges, Zhang Han, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Lai is attempting to suppress Taiwan residents' freedom to travel to the mainland as well as cross-strait activities, which fully exposes the nature of his "politics of terror" and the Democratic Progressive Party's "green dictatorship."
"One Country, Two Systems" is an approach for national reunification that is peaceful, democratic, of goodwill and benefits both sides, the spokesperson said.
The Taiwan question is at the very core of China's core interests, and it is an absolute red line that cannot be crossed, the spokesperson stressed, vowing to crush the "Taiwan independence" separatist plots.
She said the mainland will continue to exchange views extensively and conduct in-depth consultations with political parties, groups and people from all walks of life in Taiwan on the basis of adhering to the one-China principle, to jointly promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and advance the great cause of national reunification.
