Russian President Vladimir Putin says Russia does not seek a war with European countries but is prepared to respond if Europe chooses direct conflict with Moscow. "If Europe suddenly decides to wage war against us and starts it, we are ready right now. There can be no doubt about that," Putin told reporters.

He said European powers have excluded themselves from peace talks on Ukraine after cutting off channels of communication with Russia.
