Australia will begin enforcing a minimum social media age of 16 next week, requiring major platforms to report monthly how many underage accounts they remove. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Snapchat and others could face fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars ($33 million) from December 10 if they fail to take reasonable steps to shut down accounts belonging to users under 16.
