At the 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum, Wang Jianqiang, chairman of Sino-Platinum Metals Co., Ltd., told CGTN in an interview that rapidly evolving fields such as AI, next-generation semiconductors, hydrogen energy and fusion are driving rising demand for advanced precious metal materials.
He noted that AI-powered research is shortening development cycles and lowering costs, enabling faster progress in catalytic technologies, chip packaging materials and key components for future energy systems.
Wang also highlighted the important role precious metals play in green and low-carbon development, from automotive exhaust purification to hydrogen production and fuel cells. He stressed that recycling precious metals dramatically reduces carbon emissions compared with mining, making it a crucial pathway towards dual-carbon goals.
The Tengchong Scientists Forum is being held from December 5 to 7 in southwest China's Yunnan Province under the theme "Science and AI Changing the World." The three-day event aims to foster greater international cooperation and exchange in scientific innovation.
