On December 4, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng attended and delivered remarks at the China-U.S. Business Cooperation Forum, co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Meridian International Center.
Ambassador Xie said that China-U.S. economic and trade relations in the new era need to be viewed and developed within two contexts. The first one is, the two Presidents have interacted frequently, providing strategic guidance for China-U.S. relations. The two Presidents held a successful meeting in Busan and spoke on the phone again recently. Heads-of-state diplomacy will continue serving as the anchor of China-U.S. relations. The second is, the recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan have outlined a grand blueprint for China's economic and social development in the next five years. China will continue to advance along the path toward Chinese modernization. This is both irreversible and unstoppable. These two contexts have provided important opportunities for the development of China-U.S. economic and trade ties.
In light of the fact that China and the U.S. will respectively host the APEC and G20 meetings next year, Ambassador Xie suggested that the business communities of both countries focus on three lists to seize the momentum: First, keep expanding the list of dialogue. The business communities need to support the two governments and all sectors of society in engaging with each other more often. Second, keep lengthening the list of cooperation. Chinese and American businesses can build more practical partnerships in strategic emerging fields and the service sector. The U.S. side is expected to provide Chinese companies with a fair, just, and non-discriminatory environment for investment and operation. Third, keep shortening the list of problems. U.S. business leaders need to urge the few American politicians to stop smearing China, and create positive energy, rather than new disruptions, for bilateral economic and trade relations.
The forum was held in Washington, D.C. CCPIT Chairman Ren Hongbin, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, and CEO of the Meridian International Center Natalie Jones also delivered remarks. More than 100 representatives from the Chinese and American business communities attended the event.
