Swiping travel documents for port exit-entry services? Now, it's next-level! Just look and go with facial recognition! Since its official launch on November 5, the new intelligent service has reached a one-month milestone at 12 newly added ports connecting to Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and the Taiwan region, including Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Previously, only Shenzhen Bay Port in Shenzhen and Gongbei Port in Zhuhai offered this service. Within a month, nearly 30,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips have been made at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport using the facial recognition system!
Mainland residents aged 14 or above who hold a valid travel document to Hong Kong and Macao, along with an endorsement for multiple entries to the two SARs; Hong Kong and Macao residents aged 14 and above with a valid mainland travel permit, including non-Chinese citizens; and Taiwan residents holding a valid 5-year Taiwan Compatriot Permit can use the new service after consenting to provide facial recognition, fingerprint and other biometric data for immigration inspection.
