The highly anticipated film "Gezhi Town" surpassed 100 million yuan (about $14.14 million) at the Chinese box office in just 15 hours after its premiere on Saturday. It marks the strongest opening-day performance for a domestic film since late September, shattering various cinematic records. Set in Yichang, Hubei, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, "Gezhi Town" distinguishes itself by stepping away from traditional grand narratives, instead focusing on ordinary people who resist oppression to protect their families and to survive.
