Since the 2026 New Year film season kicked off on November 28 this year, more than 50 films have been scheduled for release. /CMG

According to online platform data, as of the afternoon of December 7 the total box-office earnings for films in the 2026 New Year season (November 28 to December 31) had exceeded 3 billion yuan. Released on December 6, the movie “Gezhi Town” grossed over 100 million yuan on its opening day, with a cumulative total topping 180 million yuan, including pre-screenings and advance ticket sales. The film focuses on Chinese civilian resistance against Japanese aggression.

The animated film “Zootopia 2” currently ranks first at the box office for the New Year film season.
