China's Li Yuehong defends rapid‑fire pistol title at ISSF World Cup

Sports Scene

China left the Doha stop of the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) World Cup with one gold, one silver and one bronze, paced by Li Yuehong's successful defense of the men's 25 meter rapid‑fire pistol title on Sunday.

The competition itself boasted a recent tweak, as finals now include eight shooters instead of six. Li, the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics gold medalist, used experience rather than novelty to his advantage in his first international outing of the season.

The 36‑year‑old jumped into the lead after the first two rotations, taking a two‑point advantage over India's Anish Bhanwala into the final round. Both shooters scored three points on their last attempt, leaving Li with 33 to retain his crown.

Li's compatriot Su Lianbofan finished fifth, two spots away from a podium finish in the capital of Qatar.
