A green belt of 3,046 kilometers surrounding the Taklimakan Desert in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region marked its first anniversary on November 28. The belt has effectively reduced desert growth, protecting nearby communities. Recognized as one of the "2025 Top 10 Global Engineering Achievements," the world's longest ecological barrier has expanded by 8.9 million mu (approximately 590,000 hectares) over the past year. The belt now extends up to 7,500 meters in width with enhanced infrastructure support.
