China's first national-level demonstration zone for continental shale oil has recorded an annual output of more than 1.7 million tonnes for the first time. Located in Jimsar, eastern Junggar Basin, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the demonstration zone covers 1,278 square kilometers and holds over 1 billion tonnes of shale oil resources. Cumulative shale oil production at the zone has now exceeded 5.3 million tonnes.
