Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza could start soon and hinted at an expectation for Hamas militants to disarm.

"We very shortly expect to move into the second phase, which is more difficult," Netanyahu said on Sunday. On December 7 local time, a senior Hamas official said that the group is willing to engage in negotiations to advance the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. 

Hamas and Israel reached the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement on October 9 this year. However, the ceasefire remains extremely fragile, with sporadic clashes between the two sides persisting to date. CGTN brings you the latest.
