A striking sun dog appeared on Monday morning in the sky over Genhe City in Hulun Buir, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Three "suns" seemed to hang side by side on the horizon, creating a spectacular view. The phenomenon occurs when sunlight passes through neatly aligned ice crystals high in the atmosphere. Genhe's extreme winter cold makes it an ideal place to see such optical events.
