The Group of Friends of Global Governance was officially established at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

Representatives from nearly 40 founding member states of the group attended the inaugural meeting, which was chaired by Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations.

Guided by the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), China has promoted the establishment of the group, Fu said at the meeting.

"It is our hope to join hands with all partners to deepen exchanges and cooperation on major global governance issues, pool our collective strength, uphold the banner of multilateralism, and work together for a future of fairness," Fu said.

Noting the GGI was the fourth global initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping following the previous three global initiatives on development, security and civilization, Fu said the GGI offers China's wisdom and solutions to reforming and improving global governance.

"The GGI responds to the needs of the world and the wishes of the people. It promises to inject much-needed stability and certainty to this unsettled world, and has received swift and clear support from more than 140 countries and international organizations."

In an interview with China Media Group, Fu said the members of the Group highly praised the GGI, emphasizing the need to uphold international fairness and justice, support the role of the UN, and reform and improve global governance under the guidance of the GGI.

Noting the group is an open and inclusive platform, Fu said China looks forward to welcoming more like-minded countries on board.

China is willing to work together with all countries to fully implement the GGI on the UN platform, promote the building of a fairer and more reasonable global governance system, jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity and create a better future for humanity.
