U.S. President Donald Trump highlighted what he called his influence over the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military alliance in an interview with the U.S. media outlet POLITICO that focused in part on his views on Europe.

"I'm involved in Europe very much. NATO calls me daddy," he said, referring to the alliance's adoption this year of his push to raise members' defense spending targets from 2 percent to 5 percent of GDP.
