China just made a splash, literally, with the arrival of Asia's largest trailing-suction dredger, the Tongjun, which has officially completed registration and joined the fleet at China Yangpu Port in south China's Hainan Province.
The Tongjun is China's first domestically designed and built mega dredger with a massive 35,000-cubic-meter hold.
Dredgers are basically giant underwater vacuums; they suck up sand, mud and rocks to deepen channels, build ports and even restore coastlines.
