Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that the Nanjing Massacre, which occurred on December 13, 1937, claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians in Nanjing and remains a stark symbol of the brutality of Japanese militarism and crimes against humanity.

Zakharova stressed that the historical facts of the Nanjing Massacre are indisputable. She noted that the International Military Tribunal for the Far East established these facts through judicial proceedings and confirmed them in its verdict, which, together with the rulings of the Nuremberg Trials, forms an unshakable foundation of the post-war international order and the contemporary global system. Any attempt to question these rulings, rehabilitate Nazism or militarism, distort the outcomes of World War II, or downplay the scale of the atrocities committed must be unanimously condemned by the international community, she said.
