An magnitude-6.7 earthquake hit offshore of the east coast of Japan, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was recorded at a depth of 114 kilometers, according to the CENC.

Japan government issued emergency earthquake warning for Aomori, Hokkaido, Iwate prefectures, as the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an advisory for a possible tsunami of up to 1 meter.

The strong quake hit at 11:44 a.m. (0244 GMT) local time, days after a bigger, magnitude-7.6 earthquake hit the same region.
