China's film box office revenue surpassed 50 billion yuan (about $7.08 billion) in 2025, according to the country's National Film Administration. As of 2:30 p.m. on December 13, cumulative admissions reached 1.194 billion nationwide.
Domestic films accounted for 81.9 percent of total box office takings. A total of 50 films grossed more than 100 million yuan (about $14.17 million) this year, including 33 domestic titles and 17 releases from abroad.
The top five films on the 2025 box office chart are "Ne Zha 2," "Detective Chinatown 1900," "Zootopia 2," "Dead to Rights," and "731".
Overall, China's film market in 2025 showcased a diverse range of themes and genres. From animated blockbusters to productions marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, many titles resonated strongly with audiences, enriching the public's cultural life and reinforcing the strength of the cinema market.
