Beijing veteran Li Bin won two track and field gold medals, one in the men's long jump and the other in the relay race, at China's 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, on Friday.
Li was the first to compete in the long jump hearing-impaired category. The top eight advanced to the final after the first three rounds. Fujian's Chen Wenjun took the lead with 6.82 meters on his second attempt, but Li delivered a decisive 6.95 meters in the fifth round to overtake Chen and secure the gold.
Then in the following men's 4X100-meter relay race hearing impaired final, Li fought hard with his teammates to add another title for Beijing in 42.29 seconds.
"I am very happy to win the gold medals," Li told reporters. "This is my fourth time competing at the National Paralympics and I am already 36 years old. I feel so emotional as I took home the gold in long jump, adding this title to my previous one. I can't wait to show these two gold medals to my kids and family. I know they will be proud of me. Thank you."
