Mahbubani on what drives misinterpretation of China

In an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG), Kishore Mahbubani, Singapore's former permanent representative to the United Nations, said the reasons behind the West's distortion and demonization of China are "very complicated," with several factors driving persistent false narratives. He noted that Western powers can feel they are "losing power" after two centuries of global dominance and are accustomed "to being on top of the mountain." Now, as they suddenly realize that China is outperforming them in many fields, Mahbubani said, this shift has created "genuine anxiety" and fueled ongoing misreadings of China.
