Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described a shooting at the Chanukah By the Sea celebration on Bondi Beach as a "devastating terrorist incident."

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the prime minister condemned the attack, stating it was a deliberate act of terrorism against the Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah.

"This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith," Albanese said. "[The attack is] an act of evil antisemitism, terrorism that has struck the heart of our nation."

He emphasized that an attack on Jewish Australians constitutes an attack on all Australians, that such hatred and violence have no place in the country.

"There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation," he stated. "Let me be clear: we will eradicate it."
