The Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Monday expressed firm support for the court's conviction of Jimmy Lai for endangering national security.
A spokesperson for the office said safeguarding national security is a top priority in all countries and that violations of the national security law in Hong Kong must be punished in accordance with the law.
The spokesperson rejected claims smearing Hong Kong's judiciary, stressing that the trial was conducted openly and fairly, with the defendant's lawful rights fully protected.
