Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman.
Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Jordan strategic partnership, Wang said bilateral relations have maintained sound and steady development, yielding fruitful outcomes in cooperation across various fields and continuously enriching the connotation of the strategic partnership.
China supports Jordan in safeguarding its national sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity, as well as playing its unique and important role in regional and international affairs, Wang said. He added that China supports Jordan in pursuing a path of national rejuvenation featuring prosperity for the country and well-being for the people.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China is willing to maintain close high-level exchanges with Jordan, strengthen contacts between the two foreign ministries, and jointly plan exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
He noted that practical cooperation between China and Jordan has been progressing smoothly, and China is ready to continue providing support within its capacity for Jordan's economic and social development, import more high-quality Jordanian products, and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest and operate in Jordan.
The two countries can also explore cooperation in emerging areas such as photovoltaics, science and technology, and artificial intelligence, deepen people-to-people exchanges in culture, tourism, education and civil aviation, and enhance mutual understanding between the peoples, Wang added.
Wang pointed out that the current situation in the Middle East is complex and severe, and whether to exacerbate confrontation and conflict or turn toward peace talks tests the responsibility of all parties.
Achieving regional peace and stability serves the interests of all countries in the region and meets the common aspirations of the people, Wang said, adding that Jordan is a stabilizing factor in the Middle East and has played an active and constructive role on hotspot issues such as the Palestinian question.
He said China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Jordan to jointly safeguard regional peace, stability and development.
Safadi said Jordan has always regarded China as a great friend and strategic partner and highly appreciates China's increasingly important role as a major country in international and regional affairs.
Jordan firmly adheres to the one-China principle, which is a solemn political commitment that will never change, Safadi said.
Noting the current turbulence in the Gaza Strip, Safadi said Jordan highly appreciates China's upholding of fairness and justice on the Palestinian question and for speaking out with a just voice in the international community.
He said Jordan looks forward to continued communication and coordination with China to make greater efforts toward a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question and the realization of regional peace and stability.
